Not Easy Making online Friends

Dear God, I'm so glad my writings going well at this rate my latest novel will be completed before my dinner party friends have arrived.

I thought if I just hung around at Sally's she would bring along a few of her friends, but that didn't work.

Oh well, I'll just get on with my writing instead. Well, I'm not much of a cook anyway, far better I just wheeled a pen instead of a ladle.

Where is everyone?

Maybe I could just hold a dinner party and invite a few friends alone and we could talk books.

I’m so sorry I haven’t been around much, but you know what it’s like. It’s just one thing after another.

If you are like me you have a publisher and an agent breathing down your neck all the time. But then if you are like me, we don’t have time to play around on the internet. And as for updating one well you must know what it's like…

I know, my agent keeps telling me it would be a great idea if I got a blog.

Well, I can tell you she was very surprise to learn I had this one.

‘Hey’, I said, ‘I even have three followers.’

‘Wow,’ said she, ‘That’s great, but most people have more than just three.’

‘And,’ say I, ‘What’s your point?’

‘Well, that’s not quite a following, is it’

Some people… ‘Hey,’ say I ‘What the hell do you what me to do? Write my next novel or mess around on the internet collecting followers?’

‘Both would be nice,’ said she ‘Talking about your book. How's it coming along?’

‘Great. Even better if I wasn’t spending so much time hanging around on the net, checking out other writers' blogs looking for followers.’

‘Have fun… Power to the cause. I’m off to check up on my blog. Bye Edith’

And then, she was gone until next time, at least.

Hey Bloggers! If that’s what I suppose to call you. Why are you not busy writing? If you want to be a writer, you should be writing?

Anyway, I think I’ve found a couple of places to hang out to see how others do this blogging lark.

There one called Sally’s writing blog. Sally seems to like telling people how to write and she has a few friends, I've noticed.

I wonder if that’s what I should be doing, sharing my wide experience in writing and being published, maybe I should be telling you bloggers ‘How publishing really works’. Well at least from my point of view.

I mean to say, I am an insider

Well, I must get back to my novel, before she-who-must-be-obeyed is back on the blower, asking where the first draft is, so it’s goodbye from me.

What a year, what with one thing and another time pass you by so quickly. Here we are again at the beginning of a new year.

I'm I still busy writing? Of course, I am.

This year is going to be my short stories year, I've decided. I have worked out that many writers start of with short stories before moving on to novels.

So this is my plan for this year.

And Sometimes Hell!

Sometimes it’s hard to know quite what to write when you are starting a new project.
It’s easy enough to come up with ideas, but it’s harder to carry those ideas forward to make a novel everyone would want to read.

At the moment, I’m not sure if my idea is the right one. I have a few characters sketched out, a bit of background detail, and not much else. I have been playing around with a few ideas for the storyline for quite awhile now, but it’s just not gelling.

What makes a story work?

It’s hard to know... when you want to create something very different, but not too different because it makes it harder to categorise it. The one thing both agents and publishers want is a novel they know just where to put it on the shelf.

You want something your readers can relate too. If you write something too far from the norm, you can lose your readers before you’ve even begun your story.

Writing can be a joy, but sometimes it can be a hell of your own making.

I shall let you know what happens next.

Well, I never thought I would find a 'Youtube' of my name sake... It's true you can find just about anything you want on the net!

I guess you all know what life can be like; there you are sitting there quietly working out the plot to your next bestseller when it throws a little thing like rejection at you.

At first, it astounds you and takes the wind out of your sails, but if you are like me, you will just pick yourself up and move on to the next thing.

Writing is a joy, and there is more to it than just getting a book published. There are many other ways to see your work in print i.e. short stories in magazines, articles, competitions etc. Look online and find out about writing competitions, as most will publish your work, if you are lucky enough to win.

Don’t give up... it may not happen overnight or next year, but you can be sure it will happen when you least expect it only if you keep working at it.

Writing must first and foremost be a joy, something you want to do.

So keep at it and have fun.

Hello, is there anyone reading this?

I've been on my holiday, and amazingly enough I've visited Scarbrough, which is just along the coast from where a fellow blogger was at Whitby. I came across this piece of Street Art, this wall was paint over the summer of 2003 by four Artists as a gift to all who see it.

Well, all I can say is, what a wonderful gift especially when it's completely unexpected, if I had turned a different corner I would have missed it.

I've a namesake who was a writer and a poetess. Some say she was great, others, not so great. Does this make it less hard, or greater for me to live up too?

In one way, I think not... I’m sure she would be more than happy to give me some points in the right direction.

What's the theme of this blog?

When you first set up a blog, you are never sure what you should write about or what’s the theme of your blog is going to be to start with. I’m sure you should have some sort of theme and there is my problem. What is the theme of this blog?

Does the opening picture give the wrong impression of the blog, or maybe its wrong title? Is the main theme of this blog to have something different to say about everything that interests the writer, and others hopefully will find it interesting to read.

Well, here I am ready to write what interests me in all that is dark and different in the world of our everyday sort of life. Hitting the keys as I do every day hoping something quite amazing will fill my page and lighten my heart.

So here it is, the blog of Ms Sitwell ... open to anyone who wants to read it.

The internet is a funny sort of place for a ghost to hang about in, but I quite like it. You get to meet people a lots stranger than you.
